Shadows - side by side

GAH!  So late this week!

I took this over the summer and I thought it was so cool.

Father and daughter.  I just loved how clear the shadows were.

Led by the Light

Usually, I relentlessly chase the light around the house this time of year. This year I'm trying to be more led by it - noticing how it plays and makes shadows and images as it fills my days with possibilities that I was straining to find before.

shadow

"Character is like a tree and reputation like a shadow.

The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing. " - Abraham Lincoln

shadows of a whale

spent friday evening at the museum of modern art, and without realizing it captured shadows that aligned with the week's topic. these are the shadows of a piece by gabriel orozco. it's a whale skeleton with a graphite design on it. this is the shadow of that piece, which was hanging above.

Shadows

traffic jam
I love looking for shadows -- they make the most boring things interesting.

In the shadow of love

Sometimes shadows can be the coziest place to be,
especially when its created by a loving mother's embrace.

shadows

shadows

dark and light
late afternoon shadows
one day fading into another

Shadows

I like to sit and watch the shadows
As they dance upon the walls,
To see a candle flicker,
And watch where
The shadow
Falls!

shadows

the shadows of an everyday life.
the light.
the dark.
the calm.
the messy.
the joy.
the sorrow.
shadows.

shadows in wisconsin...

shining
and
blinding
and
too weak to compete against winter's breath
~~
I like the two of you better
when you're friends
playing together in the golden fields of summer
while
the dragonflies stop by to see what all the fuss is about
~~
lucky for you
my word for this year is
patience
~~
so
I'll wait

no shadows

This time of year in Kansas, a shadow can be hard to find.
This year it has been especially difficult.
It is snowing again and supposed to drop down to the minus temps tonight.

Grey days filled with clouds and gloom help to remind me
of the glorious spring days which are just around the corner.
I love living in a place with four seasons.

In The Shadows of My Morning

In The Shadows of My Morning

It’s cold
:
Things are frozen.
:
The sun is making its way to me.
:
It’s a fresh new dawn.
:
The light from the window radiates a gleam.
…a gleam on the orange sweetness,
:
Fresh squeezed daylight.
:
Casting a shadow of my morning.
:
Join me, won’t you?

etchings

so, if i ask you to come up and see my etchings...it's because i really want you to see my etchings...

did i just show my age?

Shadows

we walk in the shadow of the year gone past
turning our faces toward the sun of tomorrow.

Shadows

Beautiful scenery courtesy Virginia.
Going 70+ m.p.h., trying to catch a decent shot.
Love tree shadows on undisturbed snow.
It was worth getting my first case of car sickness ..
(I probably should have stopped shooting after one hour?)

Shadows

little girl feet,
aren't they sweet?
the shadows they cast are small.
tippy-toe reach
mama offers a peach
i can reach it when i am tall.

She is but a mere shadow

A shadow of her former self.
My Mother in law has Alzheimer's
Alzheimer's has stripped her of the women she used to be.
It saddens me when people think she isn't here anymore...
She's still inside this shadow and needs all the love, grace and
compassion we can share with her.

It amazes me how she can sing word for word all the old songs at this picnic,
but can't remember what she just had for lunch...
or what year it is..
she can remember her SS # and her birthdate..
but can't remember her grandchildren or great grandchildren.

I love the peace that is in her eyes and her smile in this photograph,
she knows the words to the songs and her world is still.
For a few moments she looks like herself... not the shadow.

We love the mere shadow of her as it is fading.. slowly...
and oh so painfully to watch.

Shadows in the Museum...

IMG_1684-1

"Find beauty not only in the thing itself but in the pattern of the shadows, the light and dark which that thing provides."
Junichiro Tanizaki

...I was struck by the beauty of the patterns made by shadows as much as I was struck by the beautiful art here in the museum...

shadows...

beams of light
dancing in the shadows
transforms into rays of hope
