a new perspective

it began this summer by canning cranberry-pear jam
it was all so new to me
then
today
the biscuits
rolling out dough
burning them
then trying again
*
i wipe my grandmothers recipe card off
a deep sigh of love and appreciation fills me
as
i think of my grandmother and all she did for us
*
peace

a slow slow morning
the sun barley awake
prayers at a farm table
i adore the morning
so still

looking up

we stopped for dinner
a simple place
a place where we bowed our heads
when our food was placed in front of us
and others did too
i dig a place like that

simplicity

No matter how crazy my day can be, it's the simplicity that I allow in my life, that brings me back, to a comfortable place.
a warm coffee
eating a bowl of cereal, with my feet up, as I sit next to an autumn, frosted window
a pair of fuzzy socks, that have been mended twice, but are still my favorite
watching the leaves fall from the trees
reading a book of poetry, that fills my soul, as the train home, sways from side to side
I would adore seeing the simplicity, that finds it's way into your life, and through your lens.

coffee and tea

I adore coffee. I love the smell of coffee shops, and am amazed at the deep scent, that lingers in my clothes, after visiting a java house. As fall approaches, I become more of a homebody and tea becomes my best friend. There is a organic scarlet tea, that is one of my favorites. This lovely tea is filled with rosehips, cranberries, cherries, orange peel, blueberries, passion fruit and mango oil. Each time I brew a pot of these sweet leaves, it smells as though I am baking, mixed fruit tarts. The best part is, it's made locally, the worst part is, it's really hard to find. It's heaven in a cup.

it was all a blur

It was all a blur, at the end of a 14 hour shift. The street lights and the night breeze, welcomed me to my bed. The rain that fell on the roof, sang me the most beautiful lullaby...

who i see

Oh, he is a girls, best friend! Cute as a button, and as silly as can be. I see you getting gray, around the edges. Oh yes, me too friend, me too. No matter how many times, I butcher Beetoven's~ Adieu to the piano, you never leave my feet, listening to every key I touch. I reward us both, with lazy afternoon naps, as the sun comes for a visit, and the summer comes to an end. Oh yes indeed, you are a girls best friend.

The last of the flower petals blow away, leaving the perfect trail, for the romantic at heart.

where i live

It was a Sunday morning, when I snapped this photo. The beautiful man on the bike, was collecting cans and stopped to buy bread in the bakery, I was shopping at. He had a friendly smile. I could have photographed him from the front, but chose to let the people who see the photo, place their own, face on him... maybe someone you wave at from a distance; your abuelo, who sells, caliente chocolate, from his cart. This man, is my city. There are times, when my city breaks my heart, making me feel like a stranger and within a moments time, the city of Milwaukee, takes me by the hand, reminding me I am one of its children. Milwaukee is the 8th most impoverished cities in the nation... that stays within me, always.
The neighborhoods are where our kids played for caribbean soccer teams, where candy is sold door to door, where we shake our head in confusion, as another foreclosure sign goes up... Where we dance to the vibrant colored, dragon, that arrives for chinese new year... It's where I live. : )
