prepared

one of the ways i prepare for my day...

good morning.

here is my breakfast table. littered with my coffee (cup is a marshalls buy) date book, watch, nadina berries, and a camera in the distance. not shown: raisin bread toast. hope you had a great start to your day!

looking up....

bird watching no doubt...or maybe squirrels. for 10 years old is quite spry and always "looking up".

portals..

when you say yes to life, you approach change with courage and excitement. you throw open the windows and step through new doors trusting in that what waits just beyond is for your ultimate good if you are willing to learn from it.

mornings start out simple...and complicate as the day moves forward.

seasonal!

I love coffee and tea, so there is no way I am going to get through my day without caffeine. The ritual of heating the kettle, fixing the percolator, selecting the cup and saucer, listening to the singing whistle of a hot kettle or the comforting bubble of the percolator all contribute to this heart warming habit...I think I just talked myself into another cup...

out of focus.

some days my life feels "out of focus" and i hate that feeling, that lack of "center-ness". on those days i waste a lot of time, accomplishing little. i look around and i see a half dozen things started but not finished... but if i stop and take a breath, say a prayer of gratitude, put my thoughts to paper (a list, unromantic, but works) and do the next indicated thing, i slowly move forward, gaining momentum as i go. need further proof: notice the name of my blog...

the people i see...

this is a lady I often see in my favorite coffee shop...she is always smiling, helpful and courteous. she lifts my day better than the caffeine in my latte. i appreciate her "service with a smile" and when I see her in the drive thru, the day just gets better.

POEM

I Am Learning To Abandon the World

I am learning to abandon the world

before it can abandon me.

Already I have given up the moon

and snow, closing my shades

against the claims of white.

And the world has taken

my father, my friends.

I have given up melodic lines of hills,

moving to a flat, tuneless landscape.

And every night I give my body up

limb by limb, working upwards

across bone, towards the heart.

But morning comes with small

reprieves of coffee and birdsong.

A tree outside the window

which was simply shadow moments ago

takes back its branches twig

by leafy twig.

And as I take my body back

the sun lays its warm muzzle on my lap

as if to make amends.

...coffee and birdsong can make up for a lot.
