The Extraordinary People's Art

This village art or folk art, Madhubani, is done by the poor rural women from a state in India. Instead of a painting brush a bamboo stick and cotton is used which is wrapped at the end of the stick and then dipped in bright and vibrant colours . The themes mainly concern Hindu deities, the pagan gods, images from day to day rural life or Hindu wedding. Sadly, for the extraordinary skill and craftsmanship, the artists make a very meagre income as compared to middlemen, curators and gallery owners who sell these at ridiculous prices at city emporiums and galleries.
