Shades of Gray

2010 05 08_9143eds

I love color. I love color so much, that sometimes it blinds me to what is really there.
That's when I like to step back and change things a bit -- to take it all down to Shades of Gray.

Prepared

prepared ahead of time
in the fridge
just waiting for a dash of really good balsamic vinegar

I LOVE it when tomatoes and basil come into season!

Journey

2010 05 02_8718e

A cloud
a raindrop
a puddle
a trickle
a stream
a creek
a river
an ocean ... what a journey.

Home

2010 04 08_7889e

This is the time of year that my own back yard is the most fascinating, extraordinary place I can think of to be.
This is the time of year when home really IS where my heart is.

Always Hopeful

Every day she waits on the ready
at the side of the pond...
waiting for one of those darn fish
to come up just a little closer.

Spring Sneakin'

2010 03 27_7074ec

One of these days I'm going to get one of these Magnolia trees -- that way I don't have to sneak around in other people's yards to take pictures of them.
:-) Happy Spring, y'all!

Green

2010 03 21_6922e

They may be Autumn Joy Sedum, but I love them best when they first show up in the spring, like tiny little treasures amongst the leaves.
They look like they're having a conference, don't they? Planning for autumn, I suppose...

Hidden

2010 03 11_6623e

A few days ago there was only leaves and snow.
But look what was hidden underneath, waiting for a single warm day...

Flawed

Flawed -- this antique clock that is a bit tarnished, chipped, and cracked, and no longer runs properly. If it could talk, though, I'm sure it would have many a story to tell.
Flawed -- my sense of time these days. Tonight I settled down to do the self-portrait challenge only to realize that I'd let not one, not two, but nearly three weeks slide by and hadn't even noticed. It's been quite a month for me and my family. I guess we have stories of our own to tell.
Happily all is well that ends well, so I'm off to look at all the wonderful posts I've missed!

I love looking for shadows -- they make the most boring things interesting.

Don't wish the days away ... they go by quickly enough on their own.

Holiday Ms

The holidays are officially in full swing at our house when I start baking cookies. I love to cook, but am not a baker, so it's a momentous and messy occasion when I do finally break out the flour and baking powder. I HAVE learned one trick for holiday baking, though -- you can make any cookie recipe a Christmas cookie just by stirring in red and green M&M's!

What A Morning

Light streams through the early morning fog
Birds sing in the chilly air
The day opens and is filled with possibilities.
