abandoned barn

"abandoned barn"
words & photo
(c) 2009 julie king

her old rafters groan as the wind blows thru the eaves. bits and pieces of her old self fall in shambles around her feet. in her mind's eye she is still young and beautiful, housing the master's fine stallions and serving as a playhouse for the younguns. many barns would feel resentment at this lack of respect and care after all the years of long service. but not this barn. she is content in her solitude, warmed by the sun and caressed by the cool evening breeze. her memories are her dearest companions these days. as the sun sets and shadows lengthen she settles in for another long and glorious night of abandonment.

  1. However did you get this barn to tell you its story? Every word rings so true, you've captured it so well...

  8. I'm amazed she hasn't fallen down. Her roof sits so delicately on top of the unsupported walls. she is old yet still beautiful

  10. I love this barn and her story! What a terrific find! There is a barn near me with similar windows in it, but in a slightly less state of disrepair. I've been meaning to take pictures of it...now I know I must hurry....

  18. I love your description of this poor barn, one who had a life once and no one nurtured it. I love old barns, and really appreiciate those who work to preserve this part of our history. Poor barn. Sad:(
