Where I Live

Where I live, statistically speaking, it is cloudy about 200 days out of the year.

Where I live we have a large landmark known as "The Sun Sphere."

We are optimistic people.
Either that or deeply, deeply conflicted....

Knoxville, Tennessee ... shrouded this morning in the warm damp cover of low clouds...

  4. I had no idea you guys don't get anymore sun than that. I guess I would build a monument to the sun too if I lived there.

  7. I think we can outdo you here in central Ohio...our cloudy days are closer to 300. Ugh!

It's been years and years and years since we drove through Knoxville. That sun sphere is awesome...and definitely hopeful!

  8. I'm imagining a static disco ball - it must be quite dramatic on those 100 or so days of brilliant sunshine!

  12. I'm another reader who is surprised that Knoxville is so cloudy...can you go up into that Sunsphere?

  13. Yep, we're cloudy greater than 50% of the year. Recent figures for the past couple of years bring that down, because we were in a drought, but the drought seems to be over and that is the normal pre-drought figure. We also have sun at some time most days, too! The Smoky Mountain area is so humid that we generate our own clouds, rather than having to wait for them to come from someplace else -- and there is a constant haze in the summer. We love it! And Oliag, you can go up into the Sunshpere, although I haven't. It was originally built for the 1982 World's Fair, and its use has been varied ever since. If I'm correct,it was closed to the public for a long time, and just recently re-opened. You know how it is when you live in the same town with something -- you sometimes take these things for granted and just don't think about exploring them! The plan is to go up there one day soon when there AREN'T so many clouds ...
    :-D

  14. The sun sphere may make up for some of the cloudiness - a sign of hope for the sun to shine?:) Thanks for posting further information on it's history.

As far as "cloudy," Michigan is on the list of darkest places in the United States for a majority of the year. Makes winter REALLY long!

  15. Wow 200 days!! I would have never guessed! I think as a photographer I'd be challenged there... I don't love shooting on cloudy days...

Love the way you've captured it though!!
