in season

The luscious pomegranate is in season. And I couldn't wait to buy some at the market last weekend to use for a still life painting. The fruit is unique even before its cut open, but oh when you cut it open - the wonder of it – hard and rough on the outside, the inside glistens with hundreds of ruby-like seeds.
I fell in love with this still life that I set up to paint. I can't find the words for it, but to me there is something almost sensual about this arrangement – the curve of the "hearts-a-bustin" branch (another one of my favorite in season things) pouring "love" down on the pomegranate (a symbol of fertility).

(there's one thing here that was just by chance – see the title of the book? "Home for the Holidays". It's fitting. Our thoughts toward Thanksgiving and Christmas are in season too, believe it or not.)
