looking down is safe, but looking up fills your heart...

it's easy to walk with your head down
~~
a fear of tripping is set aside
~
being recognized on a bad hair day is much less likely to happen
~
smiling at strangers
~when your heart wants to frown~
doesn't have to happen
and
you can even jump over cracks and protect your mother's back
~
but
looking down
takes away your ability to see
~
the shades of blue that the sky wears everyday
~
birds resting on tree limbs
~
sunshine that lovingly blinds
~
stars that twinkle
~
planes that bring our loved ones home
~
bats on their night flights
~
balloons lost by children
~
kites flying with grace
and
clouds
amazing and beautiful clouds
that draw pictures for you
like an etch-a-sketch
as long as you're willing to lay on your back in a field
and
look up

  2. Beautiful Beth, I love the color, heres to always being able to look up. I tried to copy that pic but it said it was disabled. I am going to do a post when I am feeling better. Will let you know. Take care.

  3. I, too, like looking up to feel soft rain on your cheeks and to watch planes taking off for exotic places ( for me, the traveler, I imagine they are all going somewhere exotic and I should be on board ), to see wonderful sunsets and sunrises and to watch the seagulls soar. I love your poem and I applaud looking up.

  7. The photo certainly does set a mood and a tone! As I sink into your words I wonder how often I overlook what is clearly right in front of me? Provocative words inspired by a bird noticed in the trees. Beautiful :)
