In May this year I visited the Dachau Concentration camp near Munich, Germany. The gate to the camp bears the inscription "Arbeit Macht Frei" a german phrase meaning "Work brings Freedom" or "Work will set you Free". I shuddered when we entered. I have always found it unbelievable, that so many people were treated so unbelievably cruelly and inhumanly for such a long time, or at all for that matter. The phrase on the gate of course was a lie, no one ever worked enough to be set free. But many would have hoped and dreamed and prayed and believed that one day they would be free again. I pray and hope that never again will see such cruelty again and yet around the world today people are suffering at the hand of injustice, corruption and greed.
My favourite quote is "Evil triumphs when good men do nothing". I hope I always will have the courage to do something.
Please excuse me posting twice this week.

ReplyDeleteLooking through, into, at & on. Quite Reflective.
ReplyDeleteI have been there...A place that was utterly sad and haunting. I will never forget touring the showers and the ovens...I get shivers thinking about it still. How one man convinced a country to do this...I can never fully understand.
