the city where i live

i am a city girl, living in the big apple. an afternoon in central park is easily part of my weekend plans. the subways are my everyday transportation, and anymore, i don't think twice about getting on and off of them, changing trains, or being practically sat on by strangers (and sometimes ones who smell rather unpleasant). now, i feel weird in a car, and i have only driven one time in the last year.

i still have moments where i am amazed that i live in new york city... small town girl from the middle of kansas actually living and loving the city that never sleeps, the city that never stands still, the city that breathes inspiration and creativity into me daily. the other afternoon, when i snapped this photo, i was feeling just right. i knew that i was exactly where i was meant to be. i knew this while sitting in the park watching the people pass, hearing the saxophone music drift across the lawn from a tunnel nearby with my love laying out beside me in the shade.

  4. I love NYC! My sister in law lives in Chelsey...love the energy, shopping, people and Magnolia's cupcakes (although, I was also introduced to Billy's and that might be even better!).

  5. What a great post! Isn't it great to end up where you are supposed to be? I doubt many small-town girls from Kansas would naturally be happy in NYC, so you must be in the right place!

  6. Linda, I agree! It must be meant to be!

And Caroline, I love Magnolia (after this photo was taken and our time was spent in the park, we headed to the Magnolia located just south of the park near Rockefeller Center! My husband was loving it!!) I think I might have to look into this Billy's place! And I agree, Chelsey is amazing!!!

Mary-- the Plaza hotel should be there somewhere on the right. This shot was taken pointing towards the southeast corner of the park, just a little ways into the park.

Thanks for all the sweet words :)

  7. It's a Beautiful photo and I am glad you love where you are. I would like to see it one day. I have relatives that go down there on a regular basis to shop etc. Look forward to seeing other photos over the year. Take care,

  8. I think this shot is so symbolic of you and the life you have described. Because Central Park is a bit of the country/smaller slower life wrapped up in the big city. beautiful shot

  10. It's nice to meet you, city girl. New York is amazing, though sometimes a big "big." I love Chicago for many of the same reasons, though it's a bit more condensed, I think. Great shot. It reminds me of the time I was there chaparoning a high school fine arts trip. We had a fabulous time.

  11. We are not always born where we are meant to be. Glad you love NYC and you have CP to be quiet in.

  13. Oh, that's just lovely the way you feel about your adopted city! I've often said I would like to live there for about six months just to know what it feels like to be a big-city girl. I think my Ohio roots would draw me back home, but I have read that you can have chickens in NYC, soooo......

  14. I know what you mean about taking the subway. I lived in Philadelphia and took the train to work every day. I loved the diversity of the people who rode with me. It was a never-ending adventure, and every day was a new experience. I loved walking down the street in the city. One man was on the corner playing a saxophone, another a flute, another homeless man selling old cigar boxes, street vendors and street performers. I miss all of that city variety and vitality, now that I moved back to the area of my childhood. I think I will have to go back to the city. I am a city girl now!
