orange on the prairie

I chose orange as the theme this week, not just because it is my favorite color, and not just because it is Halloween and autumn and the time for orange all around.  I chose orange because it is such a temporary color.  There are not many things in nature that last that are orange...sunsets, mums, pumpkins on the vine...all things that we get to experience for only a short time, fleeting moments really.  I wanted the challenge of capturing something that wasn't a traditional orange object.

My friends and I went on a photo walk on Monday. It was an absolutely gorgeous evening. The wind was calm, and the sun was setting, and the prairie was beautiful. I roasted a pumpkin and then made fresh, warm pumpkin bread and spiked hot chocolate (made with milk and cocoa even) and took it with. We had a little picnic on a prairie hill and watched the sun set.  As I was downloading my photos, I saw so much orange.  Orange that I didn't even notice out on the prairie...

  5. orange for me is not fall at the moment it is the fresh zing of spring and the anticipation of a long hot bringht and beautful summer so I am always intrigued at how we all sense, interpret and view things so differently. Iwould have loved to be on the walk with you, lovely shots

  6. I have to confess when I first saw the theme was orange, I was not too excited about it. All I could think of were the usual leaves and pumpkins, so I thought everybody would have them in their posts. I was so wrong! I've been amazed and astounded by the creativity of our team. And I was actually a little disappointed that nobody had posted any leaves and pumpkins...until yesterday....and they are sooooo beautiful.

I got inspired on Tuesday when I was going to a post office that I don't normally go to and I passed the house on my road that had the orange VW. It was my AHA moment! I had forgotten it was there even though I'd seen it a hundred times.

So, anyway, this rambling post was meant to say "Thank you, Amanda" for choosing orange as the theme. I think it's my new favorite color!

    Your prairie pictures are beautiful!
