and sew it goes

i had many passions as a child - tea parties, barbies, coloring, bicycles and learning embroidery. i wanted to crochet but my fumble fingers could never pick it up. i would sit for hours working on doilies, baby bibs and pillow cases to give as gifts - i wish i had some of them now. i was never brave enough to try a tablecloth. i've picked it back up recently - my stitches are not as neat or as straight...but i have decided that's ok. it's enough for me.

  1. I so love this! I used to cross stitch and loved it but have not done that in years. Why do we do that...Drop something and never pick it back up again? I have found that knitting scarves is pretty easy!

  2. ...my sister was such a good sewer that I could never compete:)...I did have to sew most of my clothes in high school...but it never became a passion...more of a chore...Love your photo!

  3. There's something wonderfully satisfying about embroidery ... you make me want to hunt down a pillowcase and some floss.

  6. Oh Char...I know where you could get a whole box of embroidery floss...I used to cross-stitch, but quit when I had to get progressive lenses. Love the picture!

  7. I recently got out my embroidery floss and needles as well. I was inspired by all the needlework examples you can find online. I love it that young women are rediscovering all the old arts.

  8. You embroidered as a child? I love that. I played with Barbies and drew excessively but never learned to sew nor embroider and regret it so much. Love the soft tones of this photograph. It encapsulates so much longing and wistfullness: childhood lost. So so pretty. And feminine.

  9. I love this....and I really, really enjoy this kind of hand work. Actually, the kind I prefer now is the primitive style where things are intentionally left imperfect. I'm hoping to actually get a few pieces done for Christmas :)
