i love the big variety of colorful pumpkins and gourds we have here in the midwest! a local farmer's market had a gorgeous array in all shapes, sizes and colors so i brought a few home to decorate the front of our house. i liked the gooseneck style, the white ones and the ones with brown warts best and displayed them right up front. when my 4-year-old granddaughter jenna came to visit she noticed the funky-shaped and colored ones and asked "what are those grandma?" i said "those are gourds and pumpkins." she said "that's silly! pumpkins are supposed to be orange!!" at the end of the day i told her she could take home any pumpkin she liked. she headed straight for the largest bright orange "real pumpkin" as she called it. it made my day!
